Excert From a Manufacturer of Polaralum

Polaralum is a Thermal barrier, not a radiant barrier and should not be confused as one.

We are being told that you can put volaralum over the perlins on a metal roof job. We have steel trusses wiht steel perlins on 3 foot centers. Will this work and how would you put it on.

  2. Ed Fritz says:

The metal roof panels probably has peaks and valleys. So, if there is a peak and an air space on the foil side it will only work/help in that area. If you have 70% peaks then you will get 70% benefit. Just remember, that if the foil is “sandwiched” between two other products it won’t work. In this case it is the felt itself and the metal roof. Radiant heat by definition is heat that is transferred ACROSS an airspace. So, without an airspace you CANNOT even have radiant heat. If you have NO radiant heat, you can’t have a “Radiant Barrier”
